Reefs for Future Developments
The environmental impact of any development will always be a major consideration for our projects, from initial conceptual stages, to the development, delivery and operational phases. Once complete with our current developments, we will have added more than 1,000 km of beachfront to the Dubai coastline.
The rocky breakwaters of The Palm Trilogy and The World are the largest artificially created rocky reefs in the world. In addition to functioning as defensive structures to protect reclaimed islands and prevent erosion, they also provide an important ecological resource for marine life. Natural rock has been deliberately used because it provides the right chemistry and the right surface for colonization.
Moving forward, we will continue to focus on how we can improve the ecosystems surrounding our developments through the application of acquired and researched technologies, selection of appropriate practices, and implementation of strict guidelines and policies. Robust monitoring programs are in place to ensure compliance while audits of contractors are carried out on a regular basis to ensure that all their practices are done with the utmost responsibility towards the environment.
As we further develop the coastline of Dubai, from the Dubai Waterfront project to The Palm Deira, artificial reefs will play a vital role in attracting and sustaining the unique and diverse marine life that make the Gulf their home.
